Accentuation of Domain-related Information in Swedish Dialogues
نویسندگان
چکیده
The issue of the focal accentuation of contextually ‘given’ travel domain concepts in task-related Swedish dialogues is examined. An explanation for this focal accentuation is proposed using concepts within Centering theory, i.e. it is assumed that it is domain-related ‘Backward Centers’ that are associated with the prominent focal accents. The variation in the timing of the focal H ̄ is further accounted for by relating it to different orderings of the Optimality theory Align XP and Wrap XP constraints with respect to Align Focus. Support for the theoretical assumptions is obtained from a perception test using constructed manmachine Initiative-Response dialogues where the ‘machine’ Responses vary as to the type of F0 contour on the Backward Centers (focal vs non-focal and early vs. late timing of the focal H ̄ ).

Information extraction and text generation of news reports for a Swedish-English bilingual spoken dialogue system
This paper describes an experimental dialog system designed to retrieve information and generate summaries of internet news reports related to user queries in Swedish and English. The extraction component is based on parsing and on matching the parsing output against stereotypic event templates. Bilingual text generation is accomplished by filling the templates after which grammar components ge...
متن کاملPerception of tonal rises and falls for accentuation and phrasing in Swedish
In previous experiments with Dutch, French and Swedish listeners, it was shown that the location in the syllable of the onset of a rising or falling pitch movement is critical for the perception of accentuation. As the onset of the pitch movement is shifted through the syllable, there is a point at which the percept of accentuation shifts from one syllable to the next. This point is termed the ...
متن کاملThe influence of information structure on the depth of semantic processing: how focus and pitch accent determine the size of the N400 effect.
To highlight relevant information in dialogues, both wh-question context and pitch accent in answers can be used, such that focused information gains more attention and is processed more elaborately. To evaluate the relative influence of context and pitch accent on the depth of semantic processing, we measured event-related potentials (ERPs) to auditorily presented wh-question-answer pairs. A s...
متن کاملAn Intonational Typology of Swedish
The aim of this paper is to present a suitable framework for the description of intonational variation within Swedish. The speech data base used mainly consists of natural spontaneous speech collected from a large number of varieties of Swedish within the project SweDia 2000. The intonational typology discussed takes into account both potentially cross-linguistic and more language and dialect s...
متن کاملHistorical convergence and divergence in Basque accentuation
Within the Basque-speaking territory, pitch-accent phenomena are found in two areas: Northern Bizkaia and Western Navarre. These two systems differ from each other in important respects. Whereas Northern Bizkaian has a system of the Tokyo Japanese type, the Western Navarrese pitch-accent contrast is reminiscent of those of languages like Swedish. The two systems are separated by a large area wi...
